Building on the success of our inaugural season and continuing our commitment to the development of “astonishing new work in American theatre”, Theatre Lab is pleased to announce the launch of our newest program: The Playwright’s Forum & Master-Class Series.
Throughout the 2016-17 season, Theatre Lab will once again welcome some of the nation’s most notable playwrights to share readings of their newest plays followed by a discussion about the work, their process, and the importance new-play development. In addition, on the day following the Playwright’s Forum, playwrights will offer a 90-minute workshop designed to guide participants through the various stages of playwriting.
Topics of the five-part workshop series include: Inspiration & Research, Genre & Plot, Developing Character, First Draft & First Read, and Writing is Re-Writing. Participants in the Master-Class Series will be encouraged to utilize the series to develop their own short plays. The short plays developed as part of this series will be eligible for submission to Theatre Lab’s Short Play Festival – an opportunity for budding and established playwrights to see their work produced onstage at Theatre Lab!
